Su Bingtian's Emotional Farewell

The 2025 National Games athletics events concluded with emotional moments as Chinese sprint legend Su Bingtian bid farewell to his illustrious career. The 36-year-old Asian record holder ran the lead-off leg for Guangdong in the men's 4x100m relay final, passing the baton to his student Liu Hongxi in a symbolic transition. Though a botched exchange cost Guangdong a podium finish, the Su Bingtian farewell ceremony that followed celebrated his remarkable contributions to Chinese sprinting, including his historic 9.83 seconds in 2021. Su Bingtian told reporters, "Chinese sprinting must always dare to dream," encapsulating the spirit that made Su Bingtian an inspiration to generations of athletes.

Hubei's Sprint Dominance

Hubei team emerged as the biggest winner in sprint events, with Li Zeyang leading them to gold in the men's 4x100m relay in 38.60 seconds. The women's 4x100m relay also went to Hubei, who clocked 43.86 for victory. Guangdong's Mo Jiadie captured her third gold of the Games, anchoring the women's 4x400m relay team to victory in 3:33.25. The 10,000m events provided drama as Liang Tiantian added women's gold to her 5,000m title, while the men's race saw Yunnan's Jiang Fakun disqualified for receiving pacing assistance from a teammate.

The National Games also showcased China's rising talent across field events. World championship silver medalist Zhao Jie won women's hammer throw for Jiangsu, while Abdouaini Turgun (men's discus) and Chen Chengyu (men's shot put) claimed victories for their respective teams. Liu Dezu (men's 1500m) and Wu Ruiting (men's triple jump) continued the pattern of distributed success across different provinces.
